It’s going to be a busy weekend for the TrishGal starting with a trip to LA today (Thursday, 1/26) to dance at Hacienda tonight. Hope to see some of you there and if so, save me a dance!

First off, a BIG Thank you to the San Diego Swing Dance Club for bringing me in on Sunday, January 22nd for their monthly guest instructor workshop. We had such a good time and the class, the dancers and the music were awesome (thanks, Mark S for the music). Hope to see you all again very soon.

And, Congratulations to all the finalists of the John Tripp Progressive Jack & Jill at the Orange County West Coast Swing Dance Club this past Sunday night, January 22nd (I was honored to be asked to judge). Held at Atomic 2 in Placentia (often called Platonic, LOL), home of the OCWCSDC, the event was very classy, all the contestants in both Novice and Advanced divisions were dressed up as befitted the occasion, as were we judges. Jack Smith even wore a suit (handsome!). Everyone shone, it was a fun, festive and happy night. Congratulations to ALL the finalists, you did a marvelous job!

Saturday there are two dance parties going on, the Los Angeles based 4th Saturday Diamond Swing Dance with Rhonda Diamond and DJDK David Koppelman (Guest Instructor Pete Green!) at the Regency Ballroom in Lomita – AND – the San Diego based Project Swing with Parker Dearborn at Starlight (Guest Instructor Benji Schwimmer). So, whether you are in San Diego or Los Angeles, you have somewhere to go, lucky US! Info on both dances are at the bottom of this e-mail.

Sunday, January 29th is a double duty day for me. I have four great workshops planned for the Hacienda. Each workshop is an intensive 45-minutes long covering Country 2-Step, Nightclub, Hustle and WCS. We are definitely running the gamut of dances on that day.

Later that same evening I’ll be switching gears as I head up to Griffith Park in Los Angeles for the wonderful (wonderful!) Autry Center which will feature live Salsa music & dancing. I will get my Salsa fix in on that night, I can tell you!

Next Saturday, February 4th, is another double duty day for me. I’m so excited to be working with my Diva-Sister Michele Adams again on another Double Diva Workshop Day at the Golden Sails! Since we are both fresh off of the Worlds Championship we are covering Country 2-Step in addition to the usual Hustle. We’ll do the Workshop day, the shared Potluck lunch, the great workshops – bring your cameras, we are allowing filming of workshop recaps!

Saturday night, the evening of February 4th, I’ll be zooming back down to San Diego to teach WCS at the Innovations Dance Club’s monthly dance party at Starlight Dance Studio. So, basically, no matter where you go, you can’t get away from me, LOL! David will join me during the workshop at Innovations/Starlight, we will throw down some wicked-cool WCS wildness!

Whether it’s raining on you in San Diego or Los Angeles, I hope you’re having a good morning and staying warm and dry!

Just a quick reminder – I’m teaching a WCS Workshop for the San Diego Swing Dance Club TOMORROW, Sunday, January 22nd (see info below). David will be joining me and we are planning some wickedly good stuff with which to freak everybody out, LOL.

Afterwards we are headed up to Placentia to attend the OCWCSDC’s year-end progressive contest finals for the Novice and Advanced divisions. I am honored to have been asked to judge this annual event (and pack in just a little more good dancing for the day!).

Happy New Year to you all and I hope the new year has been kind to you so far!

As for myself, I have no complaints. Most of you know I was going to my first UCWDC Worlds Championship this year in Orlando, FL. I went a hopeful contender and came home a Worlds Champion, winning my division (Pro/Pro Diamond Classic with my Pro/Coach Ronnie DeBenedetta) – ain’t that sweet!
It was a huge challenge for me, getting ready, preparing, practicing, lessons, etc., but I did it. Yeah!

And if you didn’t know this – Country is just not for country anymore – I danced a total of 8 different dance styles including of course Country 2-Step but also West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Nightclub, Cha Cha and Waltz (not to mention Triple 2 and Polka). So if you’re thinking that Country is all old-fashioned hokeyness, better change your perception QUICK, LOL.

BTW, in getting ready for this event I did some research on how athletes prepare for competitions – not just physically but mentally as well and I adapted some of those mental techniques for myself when I competed. It’s prompted me to do more reading on the matter and eventually I’ll be holding a special workshop specifically for competitors. Stay tuned for more developments!

Finally, I ask your indulgence while I (satirically) use my newly won title to excess in the upcoming workshop notices. Yes, feel free to make fun of me, I’m doing that myself, LOL. Does anyone have a crown I can wear, LOL??
